Flag Football Earns First Empire 8 Win Over Elmira, 33-13

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo flag football team opened up Empire 8 action on Friday evening in College Stadium, and picked up a resounding 33-13 victory after holding off a comeback attempt by Elmira. The Knights improve to 3-2 overall and the season and are now 1-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ella Koopman kicked off the game on a high note, taking off on an early third down and ended up taking it 44 yards to the end zone for a 7-0 lead under two minutes into the game. Later in the quarter, the Knights came up with a big defensive stand on their own goal line to keep the lead at 7-0.
  • Koopman kept the offense rolling in the second quarter, finding Corina Dunn for a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0. The Soaring Eagles were able to cut the lead down to 14-7, but before the half was up Natalia DiPalma scored an eight-yard rushing touchdown to make it 21-7 heading to halftime
  • The Geneseo defense continued to stifle Elmira's offense, keeping them off the scoreboard in the third quarter, but early in the fourth they were finally able to break through and once again made it a one-score game. However, the Knights responded right away on offense, going all the way down and scoring a touchdown on a three-yard rush from DiPalma.
  • Leading 27-13 late in the fourth quarter, Geneseo iced the game with a five-yard rushing touchdown from Koopman.
