Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short At RIT

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team opened its season at RIT on Saturday afternoon, falling 15-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Tigers came out hot on offense, opening up a 3-0 lead after the first quarter of action. The Knights offense got going in the second quarter, with Katie Rajkowski, Natalie Long, and Lila Warner all finding the back of the net. Long and Warner scored with less than 2:30 to play in the half to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Tigers.
  • Cara Calicchia and Danyele Emler scored for Geneseo in the third quarter, but the Knights were unable to slow RIT's attack and entered the final 15 minutes trailing 11-5.
  • The Knights put up three goals in the final quarter, but couldn't keep the momentum going to mount a comeback attempt, falling 15-8.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Long posted a hat trick for Geneseo, while Emler, Warner, Calicchia, Rajkowski and Hannah Ruller scored the other goals for the Knights.
  • Lauren Russell saved 10 shots over 60 minutes in goal for Geneseo.
