GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team competed against SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats 69-32 on senior day. With the win, the Knights improved to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play. Geneseo honored its three seniors,
Maggie McGrane,
Eva Elliot, and
Grace Galgano with a brief pre-game ceremony.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo came out of the gate strong, as Galgano and Audrey Hintz sank back-to-back layups to open the first quarter. The Knights found their rhythm early, shooting 9-for-15 from the floor. Capitalizing on a Wildcats scoring drought, Geneseo closed the first quarter with a 21-4 lead.
- The second quarter was slow on both sides, with neither team scoring more than ten points in the frame. The Knights continued to chip away as the clock wound down, taking a 31-12 lead into halftime.
- Geneseo picked up right where it left off in the third quarter. Eva Elliot opened the frame with a pair of free throws, then came up with a steal just eight seconds later and finished on the other end. The Knights maintained control for the rest of the quarter, carrying a 45-22 advantage into the fourth.
- The Knights stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter, pouring in 24 points while SUNY Poly managed just 10. Geneseo was efficient from the free-throw line, converting 6-of-7 attempts (85.7%). The Wildcats never caught up, as the Knights cruised to a commanding 69-32 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Elliot had a team-high 12 points in her senior day performance, shooting 5-for-6 from the field (83.3%) and recording five steals.
- McGrane led the team with 11 assists and added nine points.
- The Knights were nearly perfect at the free-throw line, making 10-of-11 attempts (90.9%).
