Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated Hartwick on Friday evening, 72-55. The win improves the Knights record to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in Empire 8 action, while Hartwick dips to 7-12 and 1-9, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights faced a barrage of early three's from the Hawks, with the visitors scoring their first 15 points all from deep. Geneseo was able to hang in the game despite the hot start from Hartwick, with Robert Pericolosi and Justin Yearwood draining three's of their own, while a fast break layup from Trevor Hofer put them ahead 16-15.
- Geneseo went on to lead by as many as seven points with Kaden Durham leading the charge behind a dunk and a layup off a pass from Pericolosi. The Knights were able to keep their lead down the stretch, and go into halftime with a four-point lead.
- The Hawks cut the lead down to two point early in the second half at 42-40, but then the Knights went on a 16-0 run to take commanding control of the game. Geneseo held Hartwick without a score for over six minutes of action.Â
- The Knights extended the lead to as many as 23 points, and easily held on for the 72-55 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
- Josh Garelle posted 20 points and nine rebounds in the win, while Justin Yearwood added 11 points and nine rebounds of his own.
- Geneseo dominated the paint, scoring 44 of their points from the inside while limiting Hartwick to just 12.
- Pericolosi posted a game-high 10 assists, while Durham chipped in 10 points on 5-5 shooting from the field.
