Women's Basketball Tripped Up At Houghton

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team suffered its first Empire 8 defeat of the season, falling at Houghton 77-53. The Knights fall to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Grace Galgano opened up the scoring with a layup in the first minute of action, then a layup and a three from Maggie McGrane kept Geneseo in the lead at 8-7 halfway through the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Knights offense stalled down the stretch and ended the first quarter facing a seven-point deficit at 17-10.
  • Geneseo trailed by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, but battled back in the closing minutes behind a three from Aliza Whitehead and a layup from Audrey Hintz to cut the lead down to 11.
  • The Knights quickly brought the advantage down to single digits with buckets from Kristin Suydam and Eva Elliot, but they couldn't keep the offensive momentum going and entered the final quarter down 20. Geneseo couldn't put together the run needed for a comeback and fell 77-53.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Elliot and Suydam led the scoring with 10 points each, while Suydam grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
  • McGrane and Hintz chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, with McGrane dishing out five assists.
