Men's Soccer Cruises Past Sage With 4-0 Win

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team shutout the Sage Gators 4-0, with Michael Ruggiero leading the team with two goals. The team advances to 5-4-1 on the season and a clean 3-0-0 in conference play.  
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Geneseo had a great start to the game, going up 2-0 early in the first. Franco Visone sent in a cross from outside the 18', connecting with Jace DiPalo, who got his head on it to go up 1-0.  
  • Dylan Thody tallied a second goal for the Knights, picking up the rebound off a blocked shot by Owen Burke, and sending it right past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 at half. 
  • The Knights continued their momentum in the second half, putting 18 shots on the Gators. Michael Ruggiero found the back of the net, sending it past the goalie bottom right off a free kick at 63:55.  
  • Ruggiero followed it up with another in the 70th minute, getting a pass from Carraig Jones to extend the Knights lead to 4-0. Geneseo held strong though the final minutes to pick up their fifth win of the season.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Michael Ruggiero led with two goals, putting him at five this season, while Dylan Thody tallied his sixth of the season. Thody and Ruggiero now lead the Empire 8 in goals.  
  • Geneseo out-shot Sage 26-6, with goalkeepers LJ Gleason and Alec Gilbert splitting time in the net.  
  • The 4-0 win marks the team's largest margin of victory since 2022.

The Knights will host Keuka on Wednesday, October 1st at 4 P.M.
