Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Rochester 13-11 At Their Cancer Awareness Game

GENESEO, NY- The Geneseo Women's Lacrosse team defeated the University of Rochester 13-11 this afternoon. The team held their annual Cancer Awareness game, with this year's spotlight organization being the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research and in recognition of our Athletic Director Dani Drews and her current battle with the disease. This win gives the team an overall record of 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rochester struck first, scoring in the first minute of play but their efforts were thwarted as Geneseo went on a five-goal run. Maddie brown, Olivia Luchetti, Natalie Long (2) and Rosemary Mahoney all scored within the first 10 minutes of play for the Knights. Brown tallied an assist while Mahoney had three and followed it up with a second goal to close the first period; Knights lead 6-3.

  • The Yellowjackets closed the gap to 6-5 but Long answered back at 8:02 to extend the lead by two to head into halftime.

  • Mahoney opened the third scoring her third of the game off a quick pass from Brown. The teams traded goals with Rochester tallying two and Dany Elmer netting her first goal of the season at 6:11, making the score 9-7.

  • Geneseo extended their lead to 13-7 after four consecutive goals by Alaina Reina, Long, Brown and Mahoney. Brown and Mahoney's goals were man-up and man-down respectively. Rochester retaliated with four of their own but were unsuccessful in their comeback. The Knights win 13-11.
