GENESEO, N.Y. - The United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) announced its 2024-25 Award Winners and All-Conference teams on Wednesday, March 5 and SUNY Geneseo brought home two major awards and four All-Conference honors.
Sean Melso was named the Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference, head coach
Chris Schultz earned Coach of the Year, and
Peter Morgan,
Nicholas Kovacs, and
Jack McDonald brought home All-Conference honors as well.
A native of Philadelphia, PA,
Sean Melso has a plus-28 rating, third best in the league and leads all defensemen in scoring with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists in 26 games played this season. He was a league-best plus-26 with 21 points (six goals and 15 assists) in 20 UCHC regular season contests as he earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition.
Schultz has led the Knights to a No. 5 ranking in the NCAA National Power Index and No. 6 ranking in the USCHO.com Division III national poll, and was named the UCHC Coach of the Year by his peers. Geneseo enters the UCHC Championship game with a current record of 21-4-1, having finished 16-3-1 in league play to garner the No. 2 seed. Schultz is 320-139-31 in 19 seasons with the Knights and is looking to lead Geneseo to their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
Joining Melso on First-Team All-Conference is
Peter Morgan, who led the Geneseo offense this season with 32 points on 12 goals and 20 assists.
Jack McDonald and
Nicholas Kovacs were named to the All-Rookie team after putting up 12 points (four goals, eight assists) and 10 points (five goals, five assists) respectively.
