CLERMONT, FL - The SUNY Geneseo softball team continued its hot start to 2025 season, picking up a 4-3 victory over Buffalo St. on Sunday afternoon to make it three-straight wins to begin their season.
Ray Schumacher got the offense started for Geneseo with a leadoff single in the second inning. Following a hit by pitch and a walk, the Knights had the bases loaded forÂ
Hannah Olejniczak, who put the ball in play and an error from the Bengals allowed Schumacher to score. Buffalo St. tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Knights offense came up clutch in the fifth.
Molly Griffin,
Kaitlyn Schmitz, and Schumacher opened the inning with three-straight singles, scoring Griffin, then
Bella Nadzan brought in Schmitz and Schumacher with a two RBI single. Geneseo managed to hold off a late Buffalo St. comeback, with
Gabriella Petroski working out of a jam to secure a save, and the 4-3 win.
Schmitz threw 6.1 innings for the Knights, allowing three hits and picking up her second win in as many starts. Nadzan's two RBIs moved her up to four on the season, a team-best, while Schumacher tacked on two more hits as she boasts a .400 batting percentage on the season.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader against Old Westbury and McDaniel beginning at 10:30.
