Men's Basketball Drops 104 in Win over St. John Fisher

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team had one of their best offensive performances of the season on Friday night, as they defeated St. John Fisher 104-86 in Schrader Gym. The win improves the Knights record to 8-13 and 5-7 in the Empire 8, while the Cardinals fall to 6-15 and 2-10 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Geneseo wasted no time taking control of the game, jumping ahead 12-2 early on behind a pair of three's from Robert Pericolosi and Colin Gentile. The Cardinals were able to find their rhythm and cut the lead down to four points, but the Knights had the answer and a three from James Burton pushed the lead back up to 13 points with 10 minutes left in the first half.
  • Geneseo went on to extend their lead to as many as 19 in the first half, but a late run from St. John Fisher cut the advantage down to 41-29 with under 30 seconds left. Gentile stepped up for the Knights in the closing seconds, draining a three with five seconds on the clock, then stealing the ensuing in-bounds pass and converting a contested layup at the buzzer to give the Knights a huge momentum boost going into halftime.
  • Early in the second half, Geneseo went on a 9-0 run highlighted by five points from Josh Garelle to extend the lead to 23 points at 66-43. The Knights biggest lead of the game came after a pair of threes from Kaelan Leak, pushing the score to 87-57 with under eight minutes on the clock.
  • The Knights were able to hang on to their large lead in the closing minutes, and earned the 104-86 victory.
