Melso Leads Hockey To 7-3 Win Over Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA: The SUNY Geneseo Men's hockey team secured the 7-3 win over the Williams Ephs, ending their Thanksgiving weekend with a 6-3-1 record and hold a 3-1-0 UCHC record as they head into conference play next weekend against St. John Fisher (7-3-0, 2-2-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights took a 4-0 lead over the Williams Ephs in the first period, setting the tone early on with Sean Melso putting the Knights on the board five minutes in. Geneseo added another just three minutes later after Jacob Torgner came up big in net, allowing Melso to collect the puck and connect with Diceman for the second goal of the game.
  • Jack McDonald notched another for Geneseo, tapping one in on the back post after Cameron Ricotta found McDonald's stick through traffic for the third goal of the period. Filip Wiberg tallied another on a powerplay for Geneseo, getting the backhanded pass from Ryan Forberg across the crease, and sending the Knights into the second period up 4-0.
  • Williams got on the board with under five to play in the second.
  • Williams finds another early in the third but Alex Dameski answered back, ripping a one timer off a pass from Melso for another powerplay goal. Zarudny scoreed on a 5-on-4 advantage for the Knights sixth goal of the game, but the Ephs tallied one of their own a minute later.
  • Melso found the back of the net with a one-timer from the top of the zone for a 5-on-3 powerplay goal. The Knights held strong though the final minutes and secure the 7-3 win over Williams.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Sean Melso led the team with five points, with two goals and three assists.
