GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Women's Volleyball team took on St. John Fisher at home in a Breast Cancer Awareness Match this afternoon, but came up short with a 3-0 loss. The Knights now move to 8-8 on the season and 1-1 in Empire 8 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The opening match was tightly contested, until the Cardinals ultimately pulled away to secure a 25-22 win over the Knights. McKenna Callari powered the offense with three service aces.
- In the second set, the Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and began to distance themselves from the Knights. Geneseo rallied to narrow the deficit, but St. John Fisher responded with eight consecutive points to extend the lead to 22-12. The Cardinals went on to close the match with a 25-12 victory over the Knights.
- Geneseo found their rhythm in the third set, remaining within reach of the Cardinals. St. John Fisher pulled ahead midway through the set and held on to hand the Knights a 25-20 loss. Kate Barba tallied four kills in the effort.
QUICK FACTS:
- Zooey Gagnier led the defense with 12 digs, bringing her season total to 261.
- Carolyn Mack finished with a team-leading 10 assists.
- The Knights topped the Cardinals at the net, putting up a match-high four blocks.
