Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated in Conference Play, Winning 6-0 Against Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team shutout Houghton 6-0 on Wednesday evening to remain undefeated in Empire 8 conference play. Six Knights put goals on the board to make their overall record 10-2-4 and Empire 8 record 8-0-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Connor Guercia struck first for the Knights at 14:04, going bottom corner from outside the 18'. Dylan Thody followed up with one of his own, getting a perfect pass from Aidan Lodie to make it 2-0. Geneseo held strong though the rest of the first to keep Houghton scoreless.  
  • Geneseo scored early in the second to extend their lead. Franco Viscone, taking a wide-open shot from 30 yards out in the 57th minute. Michael Ruggiero made it 4-0 with a well-placed penalty kick at 65:25.  
  • The Knights found back-to-back goals five minutes later to make it 6-0. Lodie found sent one across the crease, bouncing in off the far post. It was followed by a one-timer from Kyle Arraiano after receiving a great pass from Carraig Jones.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Dylan Thody scored his 13th goal of the season, totaling 32 points this year, ranking him 8th in the nation for total points. 
  • Max Crothall and Alec Gilbert split time in net, making two saves.  
  • The Knights maintained control over the No. 1 seed for postseason play, and move within one win of clinching the regular season title and top seed.
