UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team competed against SUNY Poly on Friday night, and cruised to a 3-0 sweep. With the win, the Knights overall record improves to 11-9 and are now 4-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Geneseo wasted no time setting the tone in the opening set, as Ayla Pas'cal struck first with a kill. The Knights held onto the early lead, though the Wildcats trailed not far behind. With the score at 15-11, Ellie McLennan delivered a service ace followed by back-to-back aces from Kathryn Barba that widened the gap for the Knights. Geneseo ultimately pulled away and closed out the set with a 25-18 win.
- The Wildcats were first to grab the lead in the second set, but Geneseo was able to tie it up at eight. The Knights kept the momentum rolling to take a 25-20 victory over the Wildcats. Sophie Hunter had a dominant offensive performance, racking up five kills.
- The Knights stayed hot as they entered the third set. The Wildcats kept it close, but Geneseo was able to finish with a 25-17 win. Sydney Leigh-Manuell registered four kills, while Barba tallied three service aces.
QUICK FACTS:
- Zooey Gagnier led the defensive effort with 11 digs.
- Peyton Cole and Barba picked up seven kills each.
- Pas'cal recorded a team-high 10 digs and 12.5 points in the match
