Field Hockey Comes Out On Top Over Utica

GENESEO, N.Y. -  The No. 20 SUNY Geneseo field hockey team (6-1) came out victorious, 4-1, against Empire 8 competitor Utica (0-6) and now sit at 2-0 in conference play.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Geneseo took an early lead with Ava Harman finding the back of the net just three minutes in.  

  • Molly Bathrick scored an unassisted goal for her first goal of the season 10 minutes later and the Knights ended the first quarter up 2-0. 

  • Three minutes into the second, Katrina Clare snuck one in after getting the rebound off a shot from Sam Lewis to make it 3-0 at half. 

  • Geneseo had control throughout the third, putting six shots on goal but Utica's goalie remained strong, facing six shots and keeping the Knights scoreless.  

  • Utica got on the board at the 48-minute mark off a breakaway run, but Sam Lewis answered back, scoring 2 minutes later off a penalty corner from Hailey Roethel. The Knights ended the game winning 4-1 and now sit at 6-1 on the season.  

QUICK FACTS: 

  • The Knights put an impressive 24 shots on goal, with Katrina Clare taking nine of those.  

  • Geneseo and Utica have met nine times since 2012, with Geneseo holding a 7-2 record, winning the last six games.  

  • Goaltender Lilly Spitz continues her dominant senior campaign and tallies her 6th win of the season.
