Men's Soccer Ties Allegheny 2-2

Box Score

Meadville, P.A.- The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team split a 2-2 draw with the Allegheny College Gators on Tuesday night. The Knights could not hold onto a 2-1 lead with a late equalizer in the 88th minute from the Gators to move the Knights to 1-0-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior defender Benjamin Sanchez narrowly found the back of the net in the fourth minute of the game on blast that went over the crossbar.

  • Allegheny opened the scoring in the 34th minute on a cross-body shot that found the bottom left corner to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.

  • The Knights found a quick answer in the 37th minute from an outside-of-the-box free-kick attempt blasted off the post by senior midfielder Stefen Nikolic. Senior defender Eric Famularo crashed the net and converted the rebound to make the score 1-1.

  • First-year forward Ali Shabani picked the pocket of the Allegheny defender and was too quick to catch before giving the Knights the lead in the 57th minute.

  • Senior goaltender Vincent Maronski Jr. made an acrobatic cross-the-net save to deny the Allegheny Gators from tying it in the 75th minute.

  • Ali Shabani rattled the crossbar in the 78th minute, inches away from extending the Knights' lead to two.

  • Allegheny converted a long free-kick attempt in the 88th minute to split the decision, 2-2.
