GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team dropped their season opener against No. 8 RPI on Wednesday afternoon, 19-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Geneseo started slow, trailing 2-0 through the first 6 minutes of the game. Cole Bollin came out and notched the first goal for the Knights.  
• RPI went on a run to extend their lead to 6-1 before Geneseo answered back with a run of their own, scoring three in a row and cutting RPI's lead to two in the second quarter. Robert Boneillo, Ronnie Trebing, and Jimmy Atkinson scored back-to-back to close the gap.    
• The Engineers extended the lead to 10-4 halfway through the third, but the Knights responded once again with a run of their own. Jimmy Atkinson scored twice and another was added by William McCumiskey to cut the lead to 10-7.
• RPI was able to pull away late to earn the 19-11 victory.

QUICK FACTS:

• Jimmy Atkinson led the offense for the Knights, recording three goals and one assist.
• Junior goaltender Wes Ralph recorded 14 saves during the loss.
• RPI out shot Geneseo 48 to 44.
