Men's Basketball Comes Up Short At Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't pull out a win in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling at Brockport 68-65. The Knights finish the 2023-24 season with a record of 12-13 overall and 9-9 in SUNYAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out strong, jumping ahead 10-5 after three point shots from Robert Pericolosi and Michael Gentile. Later in the half, Geneseo found themselves trailing, but bounced back with an impressive run to close out the first period and took a 35-31 advantage into halftime.
  • Back-to-back buckets from Cole Kattan and Josh Garelle put the Knights up 39-31 early in the second half, but the Golden Eagles weren't going away. Brockport went on an 18-5 run and took a five point lead with just over 10 left minutes left to play in the game.
  • The Knights ended up down 62-51 with 5:30 left on the clock, but found their rhythm at the right time and began their comeback with a layup from Garelle. Three minutes later, Geneseo had cut the lead down to just one point at 64-63 and 2:11 left to play.
  • A pair of free throws by Garelle with a minute left to play kept Geneseo within one possession at 68-65. The Knights defense came up big with a stop on the ensuing possession, but couldn't knock down the game-tying three as time expired.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Pericolosi posted a game-high 19 points, while Garelle chipped in 15 of his own.
  • Pericolosi, Garelle, and Cole Kattan led the team in rebounds with seven each. Kattan also added a team high five assists.
  • Geneseo will miss out on the SUNYAC playoffs after tallying the program's most wins since the 2017-18 season. Oneonta also finished 9-9 in conference play, but had the tiebreaker over the Knights to earn the #6 seed.
