Women's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team traveled to Brockport to face off against the Golden Eagles to wrap up the regular season. The Knights fell 66-57 in overtime and finished with a 17-8 record overall while going 12-6 in conference play this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior guard Kelly McLaughlin took the Knights' first possession and hit a three-pointer to get the scoring started. Another three, this time from senior guard Kiley Snow, along with jumpers from Snow and sophomore guard Maggie McGrane tied the game at 12 midway through the first quarter. A late run by the Golden Eagles sent the Knights to the second down by eleven.
  • The Knights' offense was kick-started in the second quarter with a twelve-point run highlighted by a three from graduate guard Hannah Stockman and back-to-back layups by senior forward Kerry Dennin. A late three-pointer from Snow along with solid defense in the final few minutes of the first half lessened Geneseo's deficit to seven before the break.
  • That stellar defensive play by both teams extended into the third quarter as neither squad scored more than five points in the frame. Stockman scored the Knights' only points with another three-pointer as Geneseo headed into the fourth quarter down 44-35.
  • The Knights' were able to put on a clinic in the fourth quarter, however, as they outscored the Golden Eagles 20-11. A layup from junior guard Mackenzie Reigle cut Geneseo's deficit to seven early in the frame while several made free throws in the middle of the quarter kept the Knights within striking distance. Back-to-back three-pointers from Stockman were followed by another from freshman forward Kristin Suydam before Stockman forced overtime with her fifth made three of the game in the final seconds of regulation.
  • The two squads went to overtime tied at 55 before the Knights' offensive production was stifled again. They couldn't match the eleven points scored by Brockport and fell 66-57 to wrap up the regular season.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Stockman led the Knights in scoring with 15 points, while Snow and Dennin followed with 13 and 12, respectively.
  • Dennin also led the team in rebounds with 17, while Reigle had a team-high five assists against the Golden Eagles.
