Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Corie Holding

Ice Knights Devastate No.3 Utica Pioneers, Winning 5-2

UTICA, NY- The No.4 Geneseo Men's Hockey team overtook the No.3 Utica Pioneers 5-2 while on the road in their final game on this year. The Knights remain undefeated and now sit at 10-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Knights opened the first putting pressure on the Pioneers but were unable to convert and Utica took control. The Pioneers found the back of the net after putting ten shots on Adam Harris and took the 1-0 lead. 

  • Luke Pnachisin levels the game on a beautiful one-timer with 5:49 left int he first. Diarmad DiMurro found Panchisin on a perfect thru pass who fires home. Dakota Zarudny was credited with the second assist. 

  • Peter Morgan gives the Knights the 2-1 lead after deflecting a slapshot from Sterling Wolters less than a minute later. Samuel Beaulne has the second assist and Geneseo heads into the first intermission leading 2-1.  

  • Utica opened the second period with their second goal of the game and brought the score to 2-2.  

  • Sean Melso pick-pocketed a Utica player and finds Filip Wiberg in the middle of Utica's zone, who nets one and gives Geneseo the 3-2 lead at 7:37. 

  • DiMurro fired ahead a breakaway and sneaks one by the Pioneers goaltender to extend the teams lead by two as they head into the third. Carter Diceman assisted on the play. 

  • The Knights open the third period leading 4-2 with only 16 shots on net. The Pioneers were no match for Morgan's speed and who steals the puck from Utica and finds the back of the net after a beautiful move in front. Geneseo remained strong through the tired and ended the game winning 5-2.  

QUICKS FACTS: 

  • Adam Harris made a career high of 50 saves, ending the night with a .962 SV%.  

  • Peter Morgan tallied two goals this evening and now leads the team in goals with six on the season.  

  • This win marks the Knights best start to the season in the history of the team, with a record of 10-0-1.  

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The Knights will head into the new year on the road against Elmira on January 11th at 7 PM.
