Women's Basketball Falls To Amherst In Opening Round Of Oswego Tournament

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team fell to Amherst in the first round of the Oswego Max Ziehl Tournament on Friday evening. The Knights dropped the contest by a score of 59-52, moving their record to 1-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kiley Snow opened up the game for the Knights with a layup six seconds into the game, and a few minutes later drained a three to give Geneseo a 9-6 advantage. In the final 30 seconds of the first quarter, Audrey Hintz drained four free throws to give the Knights a slim 19-17 lead heading to the second quarter.
  • Amherst was able to slow down the Geneseo offense in the second quarter, and the Mammoths were able to enter halftime with a seven-point advantage.
  • The Knights trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but once again Hintz came up clutch for Geneseo down the stretch. This time Hintz recorded an and-one on their final possession to cut the Amherst lead down to eight points heading to the final frame.
  • Geneseo kept their momentum going into the fourth quarter, tying the game at 47-47 with 3:10 left to play following a pair of free throws from Kristin Suydam. Unfortunately, Amherst was able to pull away in the closing minutes and escaped with the 59-52 victory.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Hintz led the offense with 11 points, while Snow also reached double digits with 10 of her own.
  • Grace Galgano tallied a team-high nine rebounds, while Mackenzie Reigle recorded a team-high three assists.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Geneseo will face SUNY Poly in the consolation game of the Max Ziehl Tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m.
