GENESEO, N.Y. - The No. 18 SUNY Geneseo field hockey team took on a top-25 match-up on Friday, Nov. 1 as they hosted No. 21 University of Rochester at College Stadium. The Knights were unable to pull out the win in their regular season finale as they fell by a score of 1-0, which concludes their season with a record of 16-2 as they look ahead to the Empire 8 playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both defenses started out strong, with neither team registering a shot through the first 12 minutes of action. However, the Knights first opportunity was a near miss as a shot from Katrina Clare at 12:13 through the first quarter ricocheted off the post and the score entered the second quarter tied at 0-0.
- The Yellowjackets were able to strike first in the game, scoring near the halfway point of the second quarter off a penalty corner. Geneseo was unable to find the equalizer before halftime and entered the second half down 1-0.
- The Knights had multiple of scoring chances throughout the second half, but ultimately couldn't break through the Rochester defense and fell, 1-0.
QUICK FACTS:
- Geneseo out-shot Rochester 15-5 in the game with a difference of seven to four in shots on goal. The Knights also tallied 13 penalty corners compared to three from the Yellowjackets.
- Geneseo's regular season record of 16-2 marks their best finish since the 2019 season where they went 17-2 in the regular season and went on to win the SUNYAC Championship.
