Women's Soccer Drops Road Matchup To William Smith, 2-1

GENEVA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of William Smith on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights recorded three shots while junior goalkeeper Mollie Collins tallied four saves in the first half.
  • Both teams found themselves in a scoreless battle going into halftime and even further as the first goal of the night was not scored until the 65-minute mark.
  • Sophomore midfielder Riley Griffin found the back of the net to put the Knights up for their only lead of the game. Griffin was able to pick up a loose ball off a corner kick to score the go-ahead goal.
  • The Herons fought back to tie the game on a penalty kick less than 30 seconds later, and then a second goal by William Smith's Ava Ruppersberger with 15 minutes left in regulation proved to be the final blow as Geneseo could not mount the comeback and fell 2-1.
QUICK FACTS WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will face St. John Fisher at College Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 9 at 1 p.m.
