Women's Tennis Comes Up Short At Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team dropped their first SUNYAC contest of the year, falling at Cortland, 5-4. The defeat drops the Knights to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC play.

The Knights started out strong in doubles, earning a 2-1 advantage. Natalie Pipes and Rory Tobin picked up an 8-3 win at first doubles, while Alex Galle and Samantha Rava won 8-1 at second doubles. In singles action, Tobin earned another point for Geneseo with a 6-2 6-4 win at second singles, while Rava tallied a three-set victory at third singles.

The match came down to fourth singles with both teams tied at four points. After dropping the first set 6-4, Abigail Rockwood started out hot in the second set, but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker 7-3 and the Red Dragons were able to escape with the victory.

Geneseo will return to action next weekend as they travel to Binghamton for three SUNYAC matches over three days.
