Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Drops A Pair To #25 Ithaca And #8 Johns Hopkins

ITHACA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team dropped two games to nationally ranked opponents on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Ithaca Tournament. They lost to both #25 Ithaca College and #8 Johns Hopkins University 3-2 and 3-0, respectively, in a pair of hard fought matches. The Knights' record now sits at 4-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo started their day against Ithaca. They held a 10-7 lead, but allowed an eight-point run for the Bombers. The Knights fought back, but dropped the set 25-17.
  • The second set was neck-and-neck all the way down to the end. The Knights came back from being down seven to tying the set at 21 apiece. It continued to go back and forth until Ithaca squeaked by with a 27-25 victory.
  • The third set was another close one, but the Knights were able to pull out a win in this one. Again, it was very evenly matched, but Geneseo won 29-27 with an ace from Madison Gamberg.
  • The fourth set looked rough for the Knights, as they found themselves down 20-24. Ithaca needed just one point to claim the set and the match, but Geneseo was not going to allow that. The Knights scored six-straight points, topped off with a block from Alisiana Muscoreil, to win 26-24.
  • Unfortunately for Geneseo, they couldn't keep the momentum going in the fifth, and final, set. They allowed an early seven-point Bomber run, and were unable to recover. Ithaca would go on to win the final set 15-8, claiming the match 3-2.
  • Following the loss to Ithaca, Geneseo looked to bounce back and defeat Johns Hopkins. Unfortunately, it was more of the same, as the Blue Jays went on several big scoring runs, until they claimed the first set 25-20.
  • The Knights were plagued by Hopkins runs again in the second set. Geneseo held a 16-12 lead, which was quickly lost and turned into 16-20. The Knights did their best to fight back, but ultimately failed, falling 25-20.
  • Johns Hopkins was off to a hot start in the third set, scoring the first four points. This forced Geneseo to play catch-up, and despite only trailing for a point or two for much of the set, Geneseo was not successful in their attempts, and lost the third set 25-20.
