SUNYAC CHAMPIONS!! Men's Lacrosse Defeats Cortland, 13-7 to Win Title

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's lacrosse team won the 2023 SUNYAC Championship against Cortland at home today, 13-7. The win marked the programs fourth title overall, and first since 2007.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cortland Red Dragons came out hot early by scoring three unanswered goals. Geneseo began to find their rhythm as Jimmy Atkinson got the Knights on the board with just 2:15 left in the first, and then followed it up with another just a minute later to cut the lead to one heading into the second quarter.
  • William McCumiskey broke the scoreless second quarter near the seven minute mark with an unassisted goal. Brady Sullivan followed up McCumiskey's efforts with a goal off a pass from Cole Bollin, pushing the Knights ahead 4-3 headed into the second half.
  • The Geneseo momentum in the third quarter was unmatched, winning the 15 minute period by a score of 6-2. McCumiskey led the offensive push for the Knights, scoring three goals.
  • Holding a commanding 10-5 lead heading into the final quarter, senior goalkeeper Mark Pav and the Geneseo defense didn't allow any thoughts of a comeback, only allowing two goals from the Red Dragons to secure the 13-7 victory.
