Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Plattsburgh in SUNYAC Semifinals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -  The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team saw its bid to defend four straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) titles come to an end on Saturday night at Plattsburgh, as they fell to the Cardinals, 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Plattsburgh found the back of the net first at the halfway mark of the first period, however, senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian and the Knights defense was able to withstand 20 shots on goal in the period and keep it at a one-goal deficit heading into the second period.
  • The Knights offense found its rhythm in the second, out-shooting the Cardinals by a margin of 17-9. Domenic Garozzo scored in the period off an assist from Diarmad DiMurro, but Geneseo still entered the final 20 minutes trailing by a goal.
  • The Cardinals quickly made it a two-goal lead early in the third period, and with the Knights attempting to mount a comeback late in the game they were able to tack on two more goals to seal the win.

QUICK FACTS
  • Garozzo's goal marked his 12th of the season, while Petizian tallied 39 saves in goal.
  • With the loss, Geneseo moves to a record of 18-7-2, marking their 14th straight season with a record over .500.
