Men's Hockey Picks Up Road Win At Amherst, 4-2

AMHERST, MASS. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team earned a 4-2 road win on Saturday afternoon over Amherst. The Knights were powered by two second period goals from Cooper Fensterstock and a pair of third period goals by Greg Koutsomitis and Stefan Miklakos.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a scoreless first period where freshman Jacob Torgner recorded eight saves in goal, the Knights were quick to strike in the second period. Cooper Fensterstock found the back of the net just over a minute into the action for a power play goal. Peter Morgan and Mitch Machlitt assisted on the goal.
  • Amherst was able to answer the early second period goal however, as they scored back-to-back goals to make it a 2-1 advantage.
  • Fensterstock wasn't done scoring yet, as he brought the game back to a 2-2 tie at the 13 minute mark in the second period. Machlitt and Zarudny assisted on the goal to give Geneseo some momentum heading to the final 20 minutes.
  • Early in the third period, Greg Koutsomitis put the Knights back in front with a goal assisted by Luke Panchisin. Stefan Miklakos then made it a two-goal advantage with about seven minutes remaining as Sterling Wolters and Tommy Winn assisted.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Fensterstock is up to three goals on the season, while Miklakos netted his fourth and Koutsomitis tallied his first of the year.
  • Torgner tallied his third win of the season in goal for Geneseo.
