Box Score Patchogue, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team fell to St. Joseph's in the season opener on the road Saturday, Nov.11. The Knights start the season on a loss to the Golden Eagles with a 62-47 defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights are back and on the road,to start their latest season. St. Joseph's came out strong immediately scoring 8 points in the first 2 minutes of play. The Knights were finally able to score nearly 6 minutes into play. The Knights had multiple turnovers which helped St. Josephs grow their lead to 17-5 at the end of the first.
- The Knights came out strong to start the second quarter scoring the first 8 points led by Hannah Stockman and Maggie McGrane to cut the lead down to 4 points. To finish the half St. Joseph went on a 10-3 run to quiet the Knights comeback to take a 30-18 lead.
- To start the first half the Knights defense hung tough and prevented any baskets from the Golden Eagles the first 3 minutes with defensive plays by Kiley Snow. Geneseo was unable to get multiple baskets to cut the Golden Eagle's lead down to 8. Both teams scored multiple threes and St. Joseph led 38-25 at the end of the third.
- Hannah Stockman came out hot to start the fourth quarter scoring 5 points, cutting the lead down to 8 points again. After a three by Geneseo to then make it a 43-36 game, the Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run. It was topped off by a four-point play to give the Golden Eagles a 14 point lead.
- St. Joseph's made 10 out of 14 free throws in the final two minutes to defeat the Knights 62-47.
