Field Hockey Falls To New Paltz In SUNYAC Semifinals

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team ended their season today with a hard-fought loss to New Paltz. The Knights finish the 2023 campaign with a record of 11-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • There was some back and forth action from both teams in the first quarter trading shots and penalty corners, but at the end of the quarter, a foul occurred in favor of New Paltz, who scored on the penalty shot, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead going into the second quarter.
  • Geneseo's Katrina Clare was quick to answer in the second quarter, scoring off of an assist from Olivia Hernick.
  • Despite both defensive and goalie saves, New Paltz was able to score a few minutes after the Knight's goal, allowing them to keep their one-goal lead heading into the second half.
  • Down by one, Geneseo's defensive efforts were outstanding in the third quarter with Sarah Quinlan recording multiple saves.
  • Geneseo did not allow the Hawks to score in the third, but the Knights were also not able to score, allowing New Paltz to keep their 2-1 lead going into the final minutes of the game.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the fourth, allowing New Paltz to secure the win, ending Geneseo's playoff run.
