GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball faced a deficit as large as 14 points Tuesday night at Buffalo St., but the Knights were able to pull out the comeback victory, 50-48. The win improved Geneseo to 14-5 overall and 9-3 in SUNYAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights struggled offensively in the first half, going just 5-25 from the field and 2-11 from behind the arc. However, their defense kept the game within reach at halftime as they only allowed 29 points.
- Geneseo came out of the locker rooms firing, as Hannah Stockman and Kiley Snow each drained a three-point shot in the first five minutes to help cut the lead to two points. The Knights defense also held the Bengals scoreless in the third quarter for over five minutes.
- Geneseo only trailed by one point heading to the final quarter of play, but faced a three-point deficit with under two minutes left to play. Following a layup from Lauren Romito and a pair of free throws from Kerry Dennin, the Knights had a one-point advantage.
- Buffalo St. answered back with a basket of their own, but clutch free throws from Kelly McLaughlin and Dennin down the stretch helped secure the come-from-behind win for the Knights.
QUICK FACTS
- Stockman recorded a team-high 13 points, and shot 3-7 from behind the arc. Romito led the team on the glass with 11 rebounds.
- The two-point VICTORY marked Geneseo's fifth-straight win, and their 18th-consecutive over Buffalo St.
