ITHACA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team came up short in their season opener at Ithaca as they fell to Gustavus Adolphus in straight sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights jumped out early in the first set with a 4-2 lead after earning back-to-back points from a solo block by junior middle blocker Alisiana Muscoreil and an ace from senior libero Emily Haber.
- Later in the opening set, Geneseo struggled to gain momentum and string points together as the Golden Gusties took an 18-10 advantage and went on to win the opening set by eight points.
- The Knights started hot in the second set as well, taking a 6-2 lead, but once against Gustavus Adolphus bounced back and took control of the set by winning 12 of the next 13 points for a 14-7 advantage. The Golden Gusties were able to fend off any comeback attempts from Geneseo and go up 2-0 with 25-20 victory.
- Gustavus Adolphus rolled their momentum into the third set and completed the sweep with a score of 25-18.
QUICK FACTS
- Freshman setter Carolyn Mack led the team in assists with nine, while outside hitters Isabella Imbo and Linda Rossi each tallied a team-high six kills.
- Senior libero Emily Haber led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Rossi and Imbo totaled nine and eight, respectively.
- The meeting between the Knights and the Golden Gusties marked the first ever matchup between the programs.
