Field Hockey Falls 2-1 to Visiting Ithaca

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Isabel Reitano-Stayer netted her first-career goal, but it wasn't enough for the Knights as they fell, 2-1, to Ithaca on Thursday night at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ithaca opened the scoring in the final seconds of the first quarter, taking a 1-0 lead with just 14 seconds to play.
  • The Knights had an opportunity to tie early in the second quarter, but senior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant's penalty stroke went ringing off the post.
  • Geneseo drew even later in the second period when first-year midfielder Shannon Cunningham found first-year Isabel Reitano-Stayer for a one-time shot and goal, tying the game 1-1.
  • In the third quarter, the Bombers gained the lead again scoring from right in front off an incisive pass to take a 2-1 lead midway through the period.
  • Geneseo worked hard to tie the game in the final frame, but couldn't find the equalizer. First-year midfielder Sam Lewis generated the Knights best attempt, creating space for a shot at the top of the circle, but her attempt went just wide.

QUICK FACTS
  • Reitano-Stayer and Cunningham each earned their first career collegiate points.
  • Senior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan made two saves through nearly three quarters of action while sophomore goalkeeper Lily Spitz entered the game off the bench for the final 18 minutes and made four saves.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Geneseo (0-1) will look to earn its first win when it travels to face Rensselaer on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 11:00 a.m.
