Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team welcomed back a fully packed Ira S. Wilson Arena on Saturday night with a 4-2 win over No. 13 Oswego. The win vaulted the Knights over the Lakers to the top spot in the SUNYAC standings with four games remaining on the schedule.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo put up an impressive first period of play as they took a commanding 3-0 lead. Sophomore forward Greg Koutsomitis got the action started 13 minutes into play with a goal off an assist from fellow sophomore forward Trent DeNuccio.
- Later in the opening period, first-year defender Tommy Winn drilled a one-timer with under two minutes left to play to increase the Knights advantage to 2-0. Senior forward Dan Bosio then capped off the period by picking up a loose puck just outside the attacking zone and sneaking a shot past the goalkeeper with 3.2 seconds on the clock.
- The second period of play saw two impressive highlights for the Knights, the first being a shorthanded goal from Alex Wilkins after blocking a shot attempt from the Lakers. Later in the period Geneseo found themselves down two players, but junior goalkeeper Matt Petizian made an incredible glove save to help kill the power play opportunity for Oswego.
- Oswego added a goal in the third period to make it 4-2, but Petizian and the Geneseo defense held strong to earn the two goal win.
QUICK FACTS
- Bosio's goal marked his 15th of the season, while Wilkins shorthanded goal was the first of his career. Petizian finished with 34 saves in the game.
- The Knights have now won six-straight games against the Lakers, and have allowed just 11 goals over those six games.
- The last full capacity game at Ira S. Wilson Arena was against Oswego in the SUNYAC Championship game on March 7, 2020.
