Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament on Tuesday night with a 44-40 victory over Fredonia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams came out tight offensively, with the Blue Devils only holding a 9-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. However, the Knights hit some big shots in the second quarter as first-year guard Mackenzie Reigle and sophomore guard Kiley Snow hit back-to-back three-point shots to give Geneseo a 20-13 lead. Geneseo went on to take a five-point lead into the second half.
- The Knights continued to hold a slim lead throughout the third quarter, but a jump shot from junior forward Lauren Romito with 24 seconds left gave Geneseo a six-point lead and a big momentum boost heading to the final 10 minutes. Romito also recorded a blocked shot and rebound on the Blue Devils final possession of the quarter.
- Geneseo went on to lead by as many as nine points at 39-30 with 4:30 remaining to play after a made layup from junior guard Hannah Stockman.
- Fredonia wasn't going away easily though and began to mount a comeback in the closing minutes of the game. With 22 seconds left on the clock, the Blue Devils had two three-point shots to take the lead, but couldn't get it to fall and Stockman came up big with a rebound and a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the victory.

- Stockman led the Knights with 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field, while Romito chipped in nine point and eight rebounds.
- Geneseo's victory against Fredonia marked their second in the last four days, as the Knights took out the Blue Devils 60-50 on Friday, Feb. 18.
- The trip to the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament marks their ninth-consecutive trip, with their last first-round playoff defeat coming in 2011-12.
