Men's Ice Hockey Tops Morrisville, 10-1, to Clinch SUNYAC Regular Season Crown on Senior Night

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Brendan Miller finished with a team-high three assists as the Knights rolled to a 10-1 victory over visiting Morrisville. With the win, Geneseo earned the top seed in the SUNYAC postseason and the right to host throughout the SUNYAC Tournament. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Knights jumped out to an early lead when first-year forward Peter Morgan tallied his 15th goal of the year to give the team a 1-0 lead. Sophomore defenseman Nathan Poolman scored his first career goal and first-year forward Greg Koutsomitis added a tally in the final minute of the period as Geneseo took a 3-0 lead into the intermission. 
  • In the second period, the Knights tacked on five goals while holding Morrisville to just one score. Morgan added his second of the game, senior forward Dan Bosio tallied a goal, senior forward Levi Wunder scored a power play goal while junior forward Tyson Gilmour and first-year forward Domenic Garozzo each scored as the Knights took an 8-1 lead into the second intermission. 
  • Gilmour scored a second goal and senior defenseman Matthew Doran tallied a power play score in the third period as the Knights earned the 10-1 victory.

QUICK FACTS 

  • Gilmour and Morgan each finished with two goals while senior defenseman Chris Perna, junior defenseman Alex Wilkins and junior forward Bryan Zurowski each tallied two assists. 
  • A total of 13 Knights recorded at least one assist while eight Knights scored a goal. Poolman tallied his first career score while senior forward Ricky Carballo notched his first career point on an assist in the third period. 
  • First-year goaltender Adam Harris made 17 saves and allowed just one goal to improve to 5-0-1 on the year in net. 
  • With the regulation win, Geneseo earned three points to overtake Oswego for the top overall record in the SUNYAC regular season. The Knights claim the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament and the right to host throughout the conference postseason. 

WHAT'S NEXT? 

The Knights (20-3-1, 12-2-1 SUNYAC) will travel to face Buffalo St. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in the regular season finale. Geneseo will host a SUNYAC Semifinal game on Wednesday, March 2.
