Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team put up an impressive defensive performance to earn their seventh-straight win on Friday night as they left Plattsburgh with a 45-34 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both offenses struggled to score early on as the Knights held a 3-0 advanatage through seven minutes of play in the first quarter. Geneseo ended up holding onto a three-point lead at 9-6 at the conclusion of the first 10 minutes of action.
- The Cardinals were able to find some rhythm offensively in the second quarter and they were able to enter halftime with a 19-17 advantage.
- The Knights offensive woes continued into the third quarter as they trailed 29-23 with five minutes left, but they were able to close out the quarter on a 8-2 run to take a one-point lead into the final 10 minutes.
- Junior guard Hannah Stockman got Geneseo going early in the final quarter with a three-point shot to take a 37-34 lead. The Knights never looked back after Stockman's three and held the Cardinals scoreless for the final eight minutes of the game to improve to 10-5 in SUNYAC play with the 45-34 win.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights were able to hold Plattsburgh to their lowest point total so far this season as the Knights secured a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs with the win.
- Junior forward Lauren Romito led Geneseo offensively with 10 points. Romito also came up one rebound shy of a double-double.
- The Knights defense is the best in the SUNYAC in points allowed, holding their opponents to just 49.4 points per game.
