Men's Soccer Drops Decision to New Paltz, 1-0

Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Men's Soccer team battled hard in front of a loud home crowd, but the Knights dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup to visiting New Paltz, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo outshot New Paltz, 5-4, in the first half but the Knights could not muster a goal. Sophomore midfielder Stefen Nikolic tallied the squad's only shot on goal, but it was caught and held by the New Paltz goalkeeper.
  • In the second half, both Tyler Lewandowski and Matt Volz created space off the dribble and gave themselves room to shoot, but on each occasion their shot was just off target.
  • New Paltz broke the scoreless draw in the 75th minute, converting off of a corner kick to make it 1-0.
  • The Knights had back-to-back corner kicks in the 77th and 78th minute, but could not find the equalizer.

QUICK FACTS
  • Vincent Maronski earned the start in goal and made four saves for the Knights.
  • Geneseo totaled six shots and recorded seven corner kicks while New Paltz took eight shots and four corner kicks.
