Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team couldn't complete a double-digit fourth quarter comeback against Oneonta on Saturday afternoon as they fell to 1-3 in SUNYAC action with the 55-52 defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights got off to a hot start offensively as junior guard Hannah Stockman and junior forward Lauren Romito each made an early three-point shot to help give Geneseo an 8-2 lead. The Knight went on to take a 12-2 advantage with four minutes left in the first quarter, but the Red Dragons made a 9-0 run to close out the first period.
- Oneonta took its first lead of the game with 1:51 remaining before halftime, and they went on to take a two-point advantage at 23-21 heading into the locker rooms.
- The Red Dragons kept their momentum going and ended up with a 13-point lead with six minutes left in the game. However, the Knights were ready to make a big push to close the gap and ended up making a 13-3 run to make it a one possession game with 15 seconds left. After a missed free throw from Oneonta gave Geneseo a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, the Knights couldn't get the buzzer beater they needed to force overtime and fell 55-52.
QUICK FACTS
- Romito posted a double-double for Genenseo with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Stockman tallied a team-high 14 points.
- Geneseo's defense continues to be one of the best in the SUNYAC, as they hold opponents to an average of 53.1 points per game.
