Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior defenseman Nicolas Elia notched his first-career hat trick to lead the Knights to a lopsided, 12-2 victory over host Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday night at the Maxcy Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights took control early, scoring just 5:08 into the game to take a 1-0 lead, the first of the Knights' five first period goals. Junior defenseman Nicolas Elia, sophomore forward Zach Rehbaum and junior forward Tyson Gilmour each scored before senior forward Dan Bosio added a pair of goals to give Geneseo a 5-0 first period advantage.
- Junior forward Bryan Zurowski scored just over seven minutes into the second period to extend the lead to 6-0. Potsdam got on the board later in the frame, but Geneseo answered just over two minutes later. First-year defenseman Tommy Winn netted a goal to place the Knights ahead, 7-1, heading into the second intermission.
- Elia netted his second of the game before first-year forward Greg Koutsomitis and senior defenseman Chris Perna each tallied third period goals. Elia completed his hat trick with just under three minutes to play and Bosio scored his third of the game minutes later as the Knights rolled to a 12-2 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights' 12 goals marks the highest scoring output of the season and the most goals in a single game since Dec. 9, 2000, a 12-3 victory over New England College.
- Elia tallied his first-career multi-goal game while Bosio netted his third multi-goal performance of the season, finishing with his second hat trick of the season.
- Bosio finished with a career-high six points on three goals and three assists. Rehbaum, sophomore defenseman Nathan Poolman and senior defenseman Matthew Doran each tallied two assists.
- First-year goaltender Adam Harris made 28 saves in net to earn his third career victory.
