Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Domenic Garozzo finished the night with a hat trick to lead the No. 2 Men's Ice Hockey team to a 6-3 victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Plattsburgh on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Garozzo opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the game and junior forward Justin Cmunt added a power play goal midway through the frame. Plattsburgh responded with a goal just 24 seconds after Cmunt to cut the lead to 2-1.
- With just over five minutes remaining in the first period, Plattsburgh leveled the score but senior forward Dan Bosio tallied a power play goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the first period to give the Knights a 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.
- The two teams skated through a scoreless second period, but Plattsburgh tied the game, 3-3, early in the third period.
- With 11:30 to play, first-year forward Peter Morgan netted a power play goal to pull the Knights ahead. Minutes later, Garozzo scored his second of the game to make it 5-3. He scored again in the final minute of play, burying an empty-net goal to give the Knights a 6-3 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Garozzo becomes the third Knight this season to register a hat trick, joining Morgan (Jan. 14 vs. Lebanon Valley) and Bosio (Dec. 3 at Fredonia).
- Morgan finished with four points on his 14th goal of the season and three assists while senior forward Levi Wunder passed off three assists.
- Cmunt scored his seventh power play goal of the season and 14th overall while Bosio tallied his 11th score.
- Junior goaltender Matt Petizian registered 26 saves to earn the victory.
