Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team earned its second straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory on Monday afternoon with a 63-56 victory over New Paltz.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights made a big run in the opening quarter to take control of the game, as they out-scored the Hawks 12-2 after trailing early on 3-2. Geneseo continued its momentum throughout the first quarter and ended up with a 21-7 advantage after a layup from junior guard Hannah Stockman with seven seconds left sealed the impressive first quarter.
- Four minutes into the second quarter Stockman drained a jump shot to give Geneseo a 17-point lead at 26-9, their largest lead of the half. New Paltz fought back and cut the lead to 11 points, but the Knights maintained their substantial lead and took a 13-point advantage into halftime.
- Geneseo extended their lead in the third quarter to as many as 18 points, but New Paltz continued to hang tough and cut their deficit to 11 points going into the final 10 minutes.
- The Knights saw their lead dwindle to as little as four points in the fourth quarter, but some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch helped them regain command of the game and earn the seven-point win.
QUICK FACTS
- Stockman led all scorers in the game with 17 points, while senior forward Megan Roell and freshman guard Mackenzie Reigle chipped in 14 and 13 pionts off the bench, respectively.
- Sophomore guard Kelly McLaughlin tallied a game-high seven assists, as well as recording seven points, six rebounds and two steals. Reigle and sophomore forward Kerry Dennin led the rebounding effort with eight boards.
- The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Geneseo against New Paltz.
