No. 22 Women's Soccer Drops Home Opener to RIT

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team took its first loss of the season, falling 1-0 to visiting Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the home opener on Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo and RIT traded opportunities in the first half, with the Knights powering forward on the flanks. Senior forward Nicole Bell nearly put the Knights ahead in the first half, but her shot was batted away on a diving save. 
  • First-year goalkeeper Mollie Collins made one save in the first half to keep the Knights level through the first period. 
  • RIT was awarded a penalty in the 65th minute. Collins dove to her right to save the penalty but the rebound deflected back to the RIT forward who buried it from close range to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0.
  • Geneseo pressed forward, generating several late opportunities to equalize. Bell had another close-range opportunity in the 85th minute as she beat a defender in the box, but her shot was saved. 

QUICK FACTS 

  • Geneseo and RIT each registered 10 shots but the Tigers placed five shots on goal while the Knights managed just three shots on goal. 
  • Collins made four saves in her collegiate debut, but took the loss in net. 
  • Sophomore forward Juliette Frischmann recorded a shot on goal for the Knights.

Geneseo will travel to PSU-Abington to take on the Nittany Lions at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11
