Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - Four Knights found the goal as the SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team earned its first win of the season, defeating visiting Houghton, 4-0, on Tuesday evening at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Houghton nearly struck first on a strike from 30 yards out, but junior goalkeeper Will Price tipped the shot over the bar to keep the score level.
- First-year back Liam Mulholland played a big ball off the back line ahead to junior midfielder Liam Mulderig. Mulderig collected the ball in stride and chipped a lofted volley over the charging keeper and in to put the Knights ahead, 1-0, in the 21st minute.
- Before the halftime whistle, junior forward Ryan Hilke beat a defender to a loose ball and struck a bullet to the far post to put the Knights ahead, 2-0, to enter the break.
- Just 35 seconds into the second period, Geneseo struck again. Junior forward Owen Frank found junior midfielder Justin Arilotta for a tap-in goal to make it 3-0.
- Junior forward Tyler Lewandowski capped the scoring with his first goal of the season. Lewandowski was released on a through ball by Hilke and touched it once to his right before striking a shot to the bottom far corner to give the Knights a 4-0 lead.
QUICK FACTS
- The four-goal effort marks the Knights' best scoring output since October 18, 2019, a 6-2 victory at New Paltz.
- Hilke and Lewandowski each scored their first goal in a Knights' uniform while Mulderig and Arilotta each tallied their first score of the season.
- Price posted a three-save clean sheet, the first complete-game shutout of his career.
