Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team kept their momentum going from a big five-set SUNYAC win over Brockport on Wednesday, with a four-set victory against SUNY Morrisville on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights got off to a hot start in the opening set and never looked back as they took a quick 2-0 lead and went on to never trail for the entire set.
- Leading 19-14 late in the first set, first-year defensive specialist Alex Ayers went on a serving run and helped Geneseo win the final six points for a 25-14 win.
- The Mustangs weren't going to let the end of the opening set carry into the second frame as they traded points with the Knights for the majority of the set before taking a late 21-19 lead. However, Geneseo stepped up in the clutch and rattled off six of the next seven points to take a 2-0 advantage.
- Morrisville stayed resilient to the Knights pressure and ultimately took the third set from the Knights, hoping to mount a comeback and force a fifth set.
- Geneseo dominated early in the fourth set and jumped ahead with a commanding 12-6 lead. The Mustangs never gave in and attempted to close the gap, but the Knights were able to hold on for the 25-21 win to secure the match.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo (4-5) picked up its third consecutive victory after defeating Elizabethtown and Brockport, respectively.
- The Knights blocking efforts continued to be strong as they reached double-digit blocks for the seventh time this season.
- Senior setter Morgan Michalski ran a balanced attack for Geneseo, tallying 32 assists. Michalski also impacted the game attacking the ball, picking up eight kills on 14 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.
- Junior outside hitter Isabella Imbo led the offensive efforts with 10 kills, while Emily Haber ran the back line with 16 digs.
