Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Katrina Clare scored the Knights lone goal as the squad fell short at William Smith, 2-1, on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights and Herons played through a scoreless first quarter despite first-year forward Ada Roe and junior forward Maggie Phipps recording shots on goal.
- William Smith scored just 43 seconds into the second frame, but the Knights responded later in the period. Clare capitalized on a defensive mistake by the Herons and rifled a backhand shot past the goalie to tie the game, 1-1, midway through the second quarter.
- William Smith took the lead with under a minute to go in the third quarter, taking a 2-1 advantage.
- Geneseo earned opportunities late in the game, but could not convert. The Knights' best chance for an equalizer came in the final minute, but junior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant had her shot blocked.
