Women's Volleyball Caps Weekend With Two-Match Split

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 match to host Haverford Friday night and split a pair of sweeps on Saturday morning at the Haverford Fords Invitational.

HAVERFORD 3, GENESEO 2 (26-24, 24-26, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11)

The Knights fell just short against the host Fords in the tournament opener. Haverford led by as many as five points in the first game, but the Knights cut it down to 25-24 before the hosts earned the victory. In the second set, the Knights rallied to defeat Haverford as sophomore Shannon Zembrzycki and first-year Madison Gamberg recorded back-to-back kills to take the 26-24 victory. After dropping the third, Geneseo jumped ahead to a 16-9 lead in the fourth set. The Fords rallied back to within a point, but the Knights closed out the set for a 25-21 win. Geneseo held with Haverford in the fifth set through 12 points, tying the match 6-6, but the hosts closed out the set, 15-11.

SCRANTON 3, GENESEO 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21)

Junior outside hitter Isabella Imbo finished with a team-high 11 kills while junior libero Emily Haber tallied 19 digs. Senior setter Morgan Michalski handed out 20 assists and recorded 11 digs as well, but the Knights fell in straight sets to the Royals. 

GENESEO 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-21) 

Imbo led the team with 10 kills while sophomore middle Tori Tripp tallied six. Haber finished with 40 digs while Michalski handed out 26 assists. Sophomore Madison Popielski, senior Emily Bablin, Imbo and Michalski each tallied at least 11 digs, while first-year Madison Gamberg recorded a team-high seven blocks.

Emily Haber was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second weekend in a row. 

Geneseo will host Brockport in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener on Wednesday night at Schrader Gymnasium.
