Sullivan Double Leads No. 22 Knights to 3-1 Victory over Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Hannah Sullivan opened the season with a two-goal effort to lead the No. 22 Knights to a 3-1 victory over host Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Junior goalkeeper made a pair of saves in the first half to preserve a 0-0 tie over the first 45 minutes. The Yellowjackets outshot the Knights, 5-2, with both Geneseo efforts going wide of the cage. 
  • Sullivan opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a low driving shot from the left wing to the low far post, putting the Knights ahead, 1-0. 
  • Rochester scored the equalizer just under three minutes later to level the score, 1-1, but senior forward Nicole Bell tallied the go-ahead goal on a 30-yard strike in the 62nd minute. 
  • Sullivan added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to secure the result for the Knights. 

QUICK FACTS 

  • Sullivan notched her fourth-career multi-goal game as she tallied her 13th and 14th career goals. She's the first Knight to score multiple goals in the season opener since Audrey Reid '18 and Leah Greene '18 each scored twice in the 2015 season opener, a 7-0 victory over Alfred. 
  • Bell scored her first goal since 2018 to give the Knights the lead, her first career game-winning goal. 
  • Bennett finished with three saves to earn her first career victory in goal. 
  • The Knights are unbeaten in their openers since 2014, going 6-0-1 in their last seven season-opening matches.

Geneseo will travel to face Ramapo (N.J.) on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
