Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team suffered its first defeat of the 2021-22 season on Saturday night as they fell to Elmira 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a scoreless first period of action, the offenses opened up for both teams halfway through the second period. The Knights got on the board first as sophomore defender Camron Cervone scored his first career goal for Geneseo, with Alex Wilkins and Ryan Burnett assisting on the play.
- In just over a minute from the Knights goal, the Soaring Eagles answered, and then took a 2-1 lead. Elmira's quick pair of goals gave them a one-goal lead heading into the final period.
- First-year forward Peter Morgan found the equalizer that Geneseo needed just 30 seconds into the third period as he grabbed the rebound off a shot from Wilkins and slipped a shot right past Elmira to tie the game.
- Once again, the Soaring Eagles had the answer and ended up taking a two-goal lead with five minutes left to play. Junior forward Justin Cmunt cut the lead to one goal just over two minutes left to play, but the Knights couldn't complete the comeback and ultimately fell 4-3.
QUICK FACTS
- The last time Geneseo lost was back on January 14, 2020 against Elmira by a score of 4-2.
- Junior goalkeeper Matt Petizian suffered just the second loss of his career and tallied 17 saves.

Geneseo takes almost a month off from action and will return to the ice on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. against Stevenson in the Ira S. Wilson Arena.
