CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team battled valiantly, but fell, 2-0, to host Cortland in the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Knights fell behind in the first quarter when Cortland finished off a rebound midway through the period to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the first, sophomore forward Katrina Clare fired a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Cortland goaltender. Geneseo earned a pair of penalty corners in the final minutes of the frame but couldn't generate a tying goal. 
• Cortland added to its lead just after the halftime break, gaining a 2-0 advantage. The Knights earned a pair of penalty corners in the third quarter but generated just one shot in the second half as Cortland held on for the victory. 

QUICK FACTS 

• Geneseo was outshot, 11-4, but held Cortland to just one penalty corner while earning six. 
• Junior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan made three saves but took the loss in net. 
• The Knights finish the season with double-digit wins for the fifth time in the last six seasons and the 10th time since 2009. Geneseo will graduate seniors Liz Burke, Katherine Kreiss, Grace Maley and Natalie Chojnacki.
